How Do You Change a Gen 2 Tesla Mobile Connector?

The Gen 2 Tesla Mobile Connector is designed with a removable connector that can be swapped without special tools, buttons, or complicated steps. The connector may require a firm pull to remove, but once it is disconnected, another compatible adapter can be installed by simply pushing it into place.

The standard household connector typically uses a 125-volt outlet and is limited to 12 amps, making it a Level 1 charging option. For faster charging, you can replace it with a NEMA 14-50 connector, which provides Level 2 charging at a higher amperage. While this remains Level 1 charging, the adapter can use a 24-amp chip, allowing more available charging current than the standard 12-amp household connector.

Changing the Connector Is Simple

To change the connector, firmly pull the existing adapter straight out of the Tesla Mobile Connector. Then align the replacement adapter and push it into the connector until it is securely seated. No special tool or button sequence is required.
